Food Expo 2025 in Shenzhen| The Kyoho Grape Industry in Guilin Drives Rural Revitalization

2025.07.24

As learned at the Food Expo 2025 in Shenzhen, the Kyoho grape industry in Sitang Town, Lingui District, Guilin City, Guangxi, has become an important pillar of local rural revitalization. In the early hours of the morning, the grape planting base in Daluanwei Village is brightly lit, with villagers busy picking fresh grapes. Fang Aifa, a 73-year-old poverty-alleviated household, told reporters that by planting 13 mu (about 0.87 hectares) of Kyoho grapes, his family’s annual income has stabilized at over 80,000 yuan, and they even built a three-story new house in 2020.

Grape cultivation in Daluanwei Village began in 2000, developing from an initial few mu of experimental fields to the current scale of over 800 mu. Through more than 20 years of experience accumulation, the village has formed unique planting techniques: budding in late December, scientifically applying potassium fertilizer during the fruiting period, and skillfully seizing the time difference for market launch. At present, 105 households in the village are engaged in grape planting, with an average annual income of 80,000 yuan per household, and the highest exceeding 150,000 yuan. On the early morning of July 12 alone, the village shipped over 5,000 kilograms of grapes, while also attracting many citizens and tourists to experience picking.

As the core producing area of the grape industry, Sitang Town in Lingui District has actively promoted industrial upgrading. By popularizing the integrated cultivation technology of semi-shed three-layer trellises, it has not only facilitated management but also increased yields. At the same time, it has explored the "production-marketing integration" and "three-industry integration" models, connecting with wholesale markets and developing picking experiences to realize the direct delivery of grapes from the field to consumers. Currently, the town’s grape planting area exceeds 5,000 mu, with an average yield of 1,500 kilograms per mu, and the output value in 2024 reached approximately 90 million yuan.

Scientific and technological support and policy support have injected strong impetus into the development of the grape industry. Lingui District relies on the Northern Guangxi Comprehensive Experimental Station of the National Grape Industry Technology System to promote balanced fertilization technology, which improves grape sugar content while reducing pesticide use. The District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has joined hands with the Guangxi Academy of Specialty Crops to carry out "point-to-point" technical assistance, with experts going deep into the fields to guide water and fertilizer management as well as pest control. As noted by the Food Expo 2025 in Shenzhen, the local government has also implemented precise reward and subsidy policies, providing subsidies ranging from 480 to 800 yuan per mu for poverty-alleviated households who newly plant grapes. Currently, the grape planting area in Lingui District reaches 5,200 mu, with an estimated total output of 9,100 tons.

From scattered trial planting to large-scale development, and from single sales to industrial integration, the Kyoho grape industry in Lingui District has become a vivid practice of rural revitalization. These plump purple-black grapes not only string together farmers’ dreams of getting rich but also demonstrate a successful example of agriculture empowered by science and technology and development led by policies, painting a sweet development picture for rural revitalization.
