South China Food Expo | Lianping Eagle Beak Peaches in Guangdong Enjoy Booming Production and Sales, Favored by Hong Kong and Macao Markets

2025.07.25

South China Food Expo has noted that in the midsummer season, the ten-thousand-mu peach orchards in Lianping County, Heyuan, Guangdong, are ushering in a harvest. As the "Hometown of Chinese Eagle Beak Peaches", fruit farmers in Shangping Town, Lianping County, are busy packaging and shipping freshly picked eagle beak peaches, which are supplied directly to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area market through dedicated logistics lines. Among them, sales in Hong Kong and Macao have shown a significant increase.

Lianping eagle beak peaches get their name from their unique eagle-beak-shaped fruit tips, with a planting history dating back to the Ming Dynasty. Benefiting from the superior natural conditions in the region, the peaches produced here are large, fleshy, sweet and juicy. In 2015, they were awarded the "China National Geographical Indication Product" certification. As the core production area, Shangping Town currently has a planting area of over 56,000 mu, with an annual output value exceeding 1.6 billion yuan. Fruit farmer Xie Shaojian said, "The climate is favorable this year. My more than 700 peach trees are expected to yield 70,000 jin of fresh fruits, and 70% of them have already been pre-ordered."

In terms of quality improvement, the local area has actively promoted green planting technologies. Xie Zhichao, a fruit farmer in Xiaoshui Village, Shangping Town, cultivated a "Peach King" with a single fruit weight of 520.5 grams through scientific cultivation, demonstrating the planting level of the local peach industry. To ensure the freshness of the fruits, Lianping County has specially opened direct supply lines to Hong Kong and Macao, realizing a fast supply chain of "picked today, on shelves tomorrow". The quantity of peaches supplied to Hong Kong and Macao in 2025 has significantly increased compared with previous years.

The local area will give full play to its geographical and ecological advantages, taking eagle beak peaches as a breakthrough point to promote more high-quality agricultural products to enter the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area market. It is currently the peak sales season, and the market price of eagle beak peaches remains in the range of 5-12 yuan per jin, with online and offline sales channels making simultaneous efforts.

South China Food Expo has learned that the Lianping eagle beak peach industry has formed a large-scale development pattern, with the county's planting area reaching 88,000 mu, an annual output value of over 2.1 billion yuan, and 4 "100-million-yuan villages" cultivated. At the same time, activities such as the Peach Culture Week held locally have effectively promoted the integration of agriculture and tourism, attracting many tourists to experience the fun of picking and further enhancing the brand influence.
