Food Exhibition| Zhangzhou Canned Food Industry Leads the Nation: Innovative Products Sell Well in Global Markets

Food Exhibition has learned that in the first half of this year, Zhangzhou’s canned food industry delivered an impressive performance report. As the "Capital of Canned Food in China," Zhangzhou ranks first in the country in export value for four categories of canned products: bamboo shoots, lychees, peanuts, and longans. These canned products, carrying the "flavor of Zhangzhou," are exported to overseas markets and have become delicious choices on dining tables of consumers worldwide. Behind this success lies the combined efforts of Zhangzhou enterprises in continuous product innovation, strict quality control, and active market development.  

 

Stepping into the production workshop of Fujian Zhangzhou Gangchang Canned Food Co., Ltd., the sound of machines in operation fills the air. Over 2,000 boxes of freshly produced lychee cans, emitting an enticing aroma, are ready to be shipped to Malaysia via Xiamen Port. "Lychee cans are our signature product. One month before the harvest season, orders from Southeast Asia and Europe keep pouring in," the company’s general manager stated. This year, with a bumper lychee harvest, export volume is expected to exceed 3,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of approximately 20%. The company has also developed new flavors and packaging tailored to different market demands, while its canned tuna, luncheon meat, and other products have won favor from consumers in 68 countries and regions with their excellent quality.  

 

 

On the production line of Fujian Zishan Group, workers are busy manufacturing various canned products. Hong Yahong, the group’s vice president, said, "We export more than 30 types of canned products, including fruits, vegetables, and meats. For example, our bamboo shoot cans with zero-additive and low-salt formulas particularly meet the health needs of consumers in the Netherlands." In the first half of this year, the group’s overseas sales reached 6.75 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 1.3%. To ensure raw material quality, the company has established multiple fruit and vegetable planting bases and provides farmers with technical support, market information, and other services, achieving a win-win situation for both enterprises and farmers.  

 

The success of Zhangzhou’s canned food enterprises relies not only on individual products but also on a diversified product portfolio. Data shows that from January to June this year, Zhangzhou’s canned products were sold to approximately 120 countries and regions worldwide. Zhangzhou Chenzi Trading Co., Ltd. developed a series of xylitol fruit cans, precisely catering to the needs of people controlling sugar intake; Tongfa Food launched "dual-purpose for daily and emergency" ready-to-eat fried rice at room temperature, which has become an ideal choice for emergency rescue, outdoor work, and other scenarios.  

 

In terms of product innovation, Zhangzhou enterprises continue to introduce new offerings. Tang Jin, vice president of Tongfa Food Industry Co., Ltd., introduced that the company has leveraged its 30 years of production experience to develop ready-to-eat new products such as abalone rice and sardine rice, and established a complete halal food quality traceability system. Zishan Group has collaborated with universities to optimize sterilization processes using advanced technologies and developed low-salt and low-sugar product series. In packaging design, enterprises have continuously adapted to the diverse needs of modern consumers, shifting from traditional large cans to single-serving small packages.  

 

Food Exhibition has learned that the intelligent vending machines independently developed by Tongfa Food have obtained global patent certification. This product reduces resource waste through standardized production and practices environmental protection concepts, and has successfully entered markets in Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries.
