Food Exhibition|Jiangmen Customs Oversees Export of 326.6 Tons of Mooncakes from January to August

2025.09.02

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, mooncakes full of sentimental value from the hometown of overseas Chinese are journeying across the oceans to grace the tables of consumers abroad. According to statistics reported by Jiangmen Customs on September 1, from January to August this year, Jiangmen Customs supervised the export of 326.6 tons of mooncakes with a total value of 25.9 million yuan. Many of these products have also been showcased at major international food exhibition events, further enhancing their global visibility.

Inside the production facility of Jiangmen Meiqi Xiang Food Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Meiqi Xiang”), workers dressed in white uniforms are carefully filling wrappers with thoughtfully prepared lotus seed paste, red bean paste, mixed nuts, and other fillings. After going through strict procedures including shaping, baking, packaging, and inspection, the freshly made, fragrant mooncakes roll off the production line and are loaded onto trucks waiting outside the workshop. Once customs clearance is completed, they will be promptly shipped to regions including Hong Kong (China), Europe, and the Americas.

As an established food production enterprise, Meiqi Xiang not only offers traditional mooncake varieties such as double-yolk lotus seed paste, red bean paste, and five-nut, but has also developed new products like snow skin and shortbread mooncakes, which are highly popular among consumers in Hong Kong (China) and around the world. “Our orders increase rapidly before the Mid-Autumn Festival. So far, our company has exported 15 batches of festive foods including mooncakes and fillings, with a total weight exceeding 70 tons,” said Li Huiyan, head of Meiqi Xiang.

To meet export demands, Waihai Customs under Jiangmen Customs assigned experienced staff to proactively coordinate with companies regarding production and export plans, offering tailored and detailed supervision strategies to help Jiangmen mooncakes export quickly and safely. “We have established a ‘green channel’ for food exports, providing companies with services such as appointment-based inspection, immediate inspection upon arrival, and rapid certification for customs clearance. At the same time, we have implemented comprehensive risk control measures covering raw material procurement and processing to ensure mooncakes meet quality and safety requirements,” said Cui Liang, a Fourth-level Officer of the Inspection Section at Waihai Customs.

Additionally, since mooncakes come in numerous flavors and contain various ingredients such as lotus seed paste, red bean paste, and nuts, different countries and regions have varying access standards. Jiangmen Customs aligns with the regulations of target markets, providing policy interpretation and risk warnings to help companies adjust production techniques, enhance self-inspection and self-control, and tackle technical trade barriers, ensuring products pass quality checks and clear customs in a single attempt.

Jiangmen Customs authorities stated that, moving forward, while strictly ensuring food safety, they will actively guide companies to leverage policies such as RCEP to further explore international markets. Participation in renowned food exhibition events will continue to be encouraged as a key strategy for expanding global presence.
