China food expo | Beyond Borders: Ningxia's Potato Products Conquer International Markets

2025.09.29

In the automated workshop of Xuechuan Liupanshan Food (Ningxia) Co., Ltd., fresh potatoes are being transformed through cleaning, peeling, sorting, cutting, and blanching processes into frozen fries destined for ASEAN markets. This conversion from local specialty to international commodity represents the remarkable journey of Guyuan potato products. China food expo celebrates the export success of Guyuan potato products.

"The quality is exceptional – unlike potatoes I've tasted elsewhere," remarked a visiting international buyer during the "Potato Connects the World" 2025 event, where merchants from Russia, Thailand, and South Korea gathered to witness Guyuan's potato production firsthand. Yang Bingyi, a Korean buyer, experienced the authentic taste of simply boiled Guyuan potatoes: "The boiling method perfectly preserves their dense, creamy texture."

According to Yinchuan Customs statistics, Ningxia's frozen potato fry exports grew 26.3% in the first half of this year, establishing a new growth driver for the region's agricultural exports. Guyuan City alone exported 50 million yuan worth of cold-climate vegetables (including potato products), representing a staggering 52-fold year-on-year increase.

"Since establishing operations in Guyuan in 2021, we've accelerated development of an integrated industrial chain covering breeding, propagation, promotion, storage, processing, and sales," said Wang Jianfei, General Manager of Xuechuan Agricultural Group's Western Division. In 2024, the company achieved production value exceeding 1.33 billion yuan, with exports reaching 198 million yuan – accounting for 85% of the city's total export value.

A crucial breakthrough came in January 2025 when Xuechuan Ningxia obtained the coveted AEO (Authorized Economic Operator) certification, becoming Guyuan's first enterprise to achieve this status. "The AEO certification serves as a 'green passport' in global trade, providing lower inspection rates, priority handling, and optimized services across mutually recognized customs authorities worldwide," explained a Yinchuan Customs official.

Guyuan's innovative "integrated trade services + industry incubation" model has been instrumental in the company's international success. Through establishing green clearance channels and government-bank-insurance collaborative platforms, the city provides comprehensive services spanning customs declaration, logistics, and market access.

"While the complete industrial chain provides our foundation, maintaining our position in ASEAN markets requires continuous innovation in foreign trade services," Wang noted. The company is now expanding its overseas network to provide rapid supply chain services while developing new products tailored to ASEAN's growing snack market.

Local agricultural authorities confirm that Guyuan has achieved 100% coverage of improved potato varieties, with over 80% specialization rate for specific uses. Annual production exceeds 1.25 million tons of tubers particularly suitable for processing into fries and chips due to their optimal dry matter content.

"These deep-processed products have significantly enhanced value while establishing our local agricultural products as premium goods in Southeast Asian markets," said a representative from Guyuan Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau. China food expo looks forward to the expansion of China's high-quality agricultural exports.
