Asia Food Exhibition| Meala Partners with DSM-Firmenich to Launch Vertis™ PB Pea – A Multifunctional Pea Protein Driving Plant-Based Meat Innovation

2025.10.10

June 3rd – Meala FoodTech Ltd., a pioneering developer in the plant-based sector, has entered into a strategic partnership with global ingredient leader DSM-Firmenich to introduce its breakthrough pea protein ingredient, Vertis™ PB Pea, to the European market. The announcement comes as the industry prepares for the  Asia Food Exhibition, where such clean-label innovations are expected to attract significant attention from manufacturers across the region.

This innovative ingredient marks a substantial technological advancement for the industry. Serving as a single, clean-label solution, it effectively replaces traditional multi-ingredient binder systems, including various hydrocolloids. By streamlining formulations, Vertis™ PB Pea helps manufacturers simplify ingredient lists and improve nutritional value. Notably, it enhances the final product's protein content, directly addressing a key consumer preference in the plant-based category.

Versatility stands out as one of the ingredient's primary advantages. It exhibits superior binding, gelling, and emulsifying capabilities, making it ideal for diverse applications such as plant-based burgers, sausages, nuggets, and other analogous products. Additionally, it maintains excellent texture stability and effective water retention under different processing conditions—including both heating and refrigeration—which is vital for maintaining product quality and extending shelf life. The technology behind this innovation is supported by two patent certifications, validating its unique character and technical sophistication.

The development aligns with evolving consumer preferences in Europe, particularly the growing demand for clean-label products. Research from EIT Food highlights that 67% of European consumers are wary of unfamiliar ingredients on product labels, while 56% consciously avoid highly processed foods. Vertis™ PB Pea provides manufacturers with a practical solution to meet these expectations, enabling simpler ingredient statements and greater product transparency without compromising on taste, convenience, or the authentic sensory qualities associated with conventional meat products.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Hadar Razmovich, CEO and Co-Founder of Meala, commented: “We deeply appreciate the robust support from DSM-Firmenich. As a world-renowned innovation leader, they have offered us end-to-end guidance—from application development to regulatory support—enabling our successful commercialization and global outreach. This partnership underscores our mutual dedication to moving the plant-based industry forward with more intelligent, cleaner ingredient solutions.”

Looking ahead, industry observers anticipate that Vertis™ PB Pea will be one of the standout innovations featured at this year's Asia Food Exhibition, where Meala and DSM-Firmenich plan to demonstrate its capabilities to international food manufacturers seeking next-generation plant-based solutions.
