Food Expo 2025 in ShenZhen |From Deep-Sea Cages to Global Tables: Beihai's Seafood Industry Rides a Wave of Fresh Opportunities

2025.06.24

Beihai's Seafood Processing Industry Embraces New Opportunities for Cluster Development 。Recently, reporters visited a sizable local aquatic product processing enterprise, where neatly arranged seafood products such as tilapia fillets, golden pomfret, and channel catfish were ready to be shipped worldwide as "ocean delicacies."

Yuan Zhongsheng, the company's director, told reporters, "We focus on export business, with some products already entering mainstream U.S. supermarket chains. High-value-added products like grilled fish series and fish fillets are well-received in domestic chain restaurant channels. Currently, our annual output value reaches approximately 850 million yuan, with exports accounting for nearly 60% and domestic sales making up 40%."

It is reported that Beihai's seafood processing industry has established a complete industrial chain. Yuan Zhongsheng revealed that the company primarily sources raw materials from deep-sea cage farming bases in Qinzhou and Tieshangang. "Particularly, the golden pomfret from Tieshangang, with its distinctive golden hue and superior quality, not only meets Hong Kong supply standards but is also in high demand in the market." The company currently operates over 100 large deep-water cages with an annual processing capacity of 60,000 tons.

Food Expo 2025 in ShenZhen indicate that global demand for high-quality seafood products is steadily growing, presenting new opportunities for coastal processing hubs like Beihai. Another local enterprise has successfully tapped into the market with innovative products. Liu Xueyao, the company's foreign affairs director, showcased their star product—"seafood fortune bags" made of tofu skin wrapped with fish roe and fresh shrimp. "This product accounts for 30% of our core business and has become a staple ingredient in 20,000 hotpot restaurants nationwide." The product is not only popular in Hong Kong and Macao but also exported to over 20 countries and regions, including the U.S. and Singapore.

Food Expo 2025 in ShenZhen highlighted the market's growing preference for innovative seafood products, which aligns perfectly with Beihai's strategy of diversifying its product offerings. Latest data shows that Beihai's total aquatic product output in 2024 reached approximately 1.32 million tons, a 5% year-on-year increase, maintaining its leading position in Guangxi. Industry experts note that through differentiated competition and stringent quality control, Beihai's seafood industry has built a comprehensive supply chain spanning farming, processing, and sales. Moving forward, the local government will further enhance resource integration, drive technological innovation, and elevate brand value to propel the "Taste of Beihai" into broader domestic and international markets.
