FOOD & DRINKS MALAYSIA 2023 BY SIAL TRADE EXPO WILL TAKE PLACE IN JULY 2023

2023.03.15

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 March – Food & Drinks Malaysia 2023 (“FDM 2023”) , a part of the Salon International de l’Alimentation (SIAL) Network, and organized by world-leading convention and exhibition organizer, Comexposium group, will take place from 4 – 6 July at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur. This will be the group’s debut in the Malaysian exhibitions segment, and the latest entrant to the food trade exhibition scene in the country.

Following the success of the global SIAL network series of exhibitions in Paris, Shanghai, Jakarta, Montreal, and most recently in Las Vegas & Delhi, Comexposium has selected the 2nd most developed and competitive economy in ASEAN due to its geographical location, local and regional market potential, and its global reputation for its diverse and multicultural culinary culture.

MYCEB SUPPORTS COMEXPOSIUM’S EFFORTS

Graced by Chief Operating Officer of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (“MyCEB”), Encik Noor Ahmad Hamid, said, “Malaysia is proud to be the host this year’s exhibition as FDM 2023 by SIAL provides a focused platform for the industry towards a market gateway of Asia’s food Capital.”

“FDM 2023 by SIAL is expecting to bring together more than 450 exhibitors from 22 countries to Malaysia, which shall have an estimated economic impact of RM 77 million to the Malaysian economy,” added En Noor Ahmad Hamid.

Present at the media launch of FDM 2023 was Asia Pacific CEO of Comexposium, Elaine Chia said, “Malaysia is renowned for being one of Southeast Asia’s foremost gastronomic countries. It is a melting pot of culinary traditions built over centuries of maritime trade between the far east and the western world and continues to do so till this day. Being the 2nd most developed economy and the 3rd largest in ASEAN, Malaysia possesses a distinct market positioning that can’t be found anywhere else in the world.”

Since SIAL’s inception in 1964, it has defined the global food community by providing unmissable events for industry professionals to discover the latest products and services in the market, connect and facilitate business, and address trending industry topics for the future of the global food industry.

“We are confident that Food and Beverage Malaysia 2023 by SIAL will be the leading food and beverage trade exhibition in Malaysia and throughout the region, providing an international business hub for the global F&B industry to connect and facilitate business in the rapidly growing F&B market in Malaysia, as well as the larger market within Southeast Asia.” Elaine added.

FEATURING 450 F&B EXHIBITORS FROM 22 COUNTRIES

FDM 2023 by SIAL is projected to feature some 450 exhibitors and prominent brands from 22 countries with a wide spectrum of food and beverage sector portfolios, including food and beverage technology, seafood and fisheries, and the halal segment, with a growing emphasis on ‘alternative proteins’ and ‘spice and condiments’, which buyers can benefit from the showcase.

Given Malaysia's rising obesity rate, 61% of Malaysians reported consuming more plant-based foods in 2021, according to a recent report from Southeast Asia F&B Industry 2022. The increased demand in the nutrition goods is being driven by consumers’ attention to healthier and nutritious foods as a result of the epidemic.

In countries like Thailand and Indonesia, alternatives based on plants are being advocated.

These health-concern comes no surprise driving the growth of many free-form and healthier food categories, largely as a result of the pandemic. In particular, 44% of Malaysians aim to boost their health and are willing to pay more for healthier foods. Alongside with the rise in lifestyle-related diseases, demand for gluten-free food is prevalent. Other notable health trends include demand for gut-free and immune boosting and organic foods.

“As the global market leader in F&B business events, Comexposium is committed to address food security and sustainability issues through our network of events.” Elaine adds. “Hence we are pleased to announce our collaboration with Impact Circle, an independent social and Agri-FoodTech multiplier, to host an exclusive demonstration on sustainable food solutions, featuring agricultural and food startups at the upcoming exhibition.”
