SIAL Shenzhen: The Gateway to Southern China’s Booming Market

2024.06.21

In the wake of SIAL Shanghai's resounding success, held from May 28 to 30, which saw participation from over 5,000 exhibitors spanning 75 countries and regions, and drew 175,739 professionals from 110 countries, attention now turns to Southern China’s another leading food and beverage trade fair-SIAL Shenzhen.

A survey conducted during SIAL Shanghai 2024 revealed that 53.25% of exhibitors are keen on participating in SIAL Shenzhen. Of these, 8.67% have already secured their booths, 17.65% are in the process of booking, and 26.93% are contemplating their participation. An analysis of the visitor data shows that the top ten cities of origin include Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beijing, Suzhou, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Wuxi, Shenzhen, and Qingdao. Notably, visitors from Guangdong province predominantly come from Guangzhou and Shenzhen, highlighting a significant demand-supply imbalance in the exhibitors’ need in this region's food and beverage market. This underscores the immense potential of Guangdong, positioning SIAL Shenzhen as Southern China's premier international food and beverage trade fair.

Southern China: A Hub of Opportunity in International Food Business

The Greater Bay Area, home to approximately 87 million people and with access to 1.4 billion consumers across China, is primed for explosive growth. The Chinese Government's ¥100 billion investment plan to transform Shenzhen into an international "Food Valley" signals a strategic move to attract global food industry investments. Moreover, Guangdong’s “12221” market system is set to boost agricultural output significantly. Generation Z’s preferences for experience-driven, socially connected, and quality-focused products are shaping market trends.

China's catering market witnessed a substantial rise from 2.9 trillion yuan in 2014 to 4.7 trillion yuan in 2019. Despite a brief decline in 2020, the market rebounded to 4.8 trillion yuan in 2022, with projections set to surpass 5 trillion yuan in 2023. This rapid recovery highlights the robust economic resurgence of China's catering industry, with October statistics revealing a 17.1% surge in catering revenue.

The second half of the year, punctuated by major holidays such as China's National Day (October 1st), Christmas, and Chinese New Year, promises to further energize Southern China's food market, stimulating more food economy. SIAL Shenzhen, scheduled from September 2-4, 2024, will be the catalyst for this dynamic period, offering a plethora of opportunities for innovative food and beverage products to meet the region’s growing demand.
