International Food Exhibition | Vietnam's Edible Bird's Nest Industry Expands into Chinese Market

2025.05.13

According to the latest data from Vietnam's agricultural authorities, 13 Vietnamese enterprises have now obtained export licenses for bird's nest products to China, with cumulative exports exceeding 4 tons of processed bird's nest and generating over $4 million in revenue. This achievement marks a new phase in trade cooperation between China and Vietnam in the edible bird's nest sector. The International Food Exhibition will offer more information about import and export.

Recent breakthroughs have been made in regulatory cooperation between the two countries. Following the initial inspection and quarantine agreement signed in November 2022, a new sanitary protocol for the export of raw and edible bird's nest was established in April this year. These policy advancements have opened broader development prospects for Vietnam's bird's nest industry.

At a recent industry meeting, the Director of Vietnam's Department of Animal Health noted that since the implementation of the first protocol, Vietnamese enterprises have gradually gained access to the Chinese market. The 13 licensed companies are now steadily increasing the market share of "Vietnamese bird's nest" in China.

Market analysis indicates that as the world's largest consumer of bird's nest, China presents significant business opportunities for Vietnamese suppliers. Legal entry into the Chinese market not only expands sales channels but also substantially enhances the brand value of Vietnamese bird's nest products.

Industry statistics show that Vietnam's bird's nest sector has achieved large-scale development. The industry spans 42 provinces nationwide, with over 29,000 bird's nest houses in operation. Kien Giang Province remains the leading production region, followed by Tien Giang, Dak Lak, and Binh Thuan, while the Mekong Delta boasts the densest concentration of bird's nest houses.

The International Food Exhibition notes that in 2024, Vietnam's total bird's nest output reached 270 tons, an 8% year-on-year increase. According to industry development plans, annual production is expected to grow to 350-400 tons by 2030.

Industry experts recommend that Vietnamese enterprises focus on three key strategies to capitalize on opportunities in the Chinese market: first, strengthening product innovation; second, promoting product diversification; and third, enhancing marketing capabilities. Only through a multi-pronged approach can companies secure sustainable growth in China's highly competitive market.
