International Food Exhibition | Bangladesh Mangoes Make Historic Debut in Chinese Market

2025.05.30

On the evening of May 28, a shipment of premium Bangladeshi mangoes weighing 3 metric tons arrived at Changsha Huanghua International Airport via international flight. Customs officials conducted comprehensive quarantine inspections on-site, verifying product labeling, phytosanitary certificates, and meticulously examining packaging and fruit appearance. After confirming compliance with all standards, the mangoes cleared customs that same night. This marks China's first authorized import of Bangladeshi mangoes, inaugurating a new chapter in agricultural trade between the two nations. The International Food Exhibition will offer more information about import and export.

The International Food Exhibition notes that the imported variety represents Bangladesh's renowned specialty fruit, locally named "Sea of Ice and Snow." Characterized by plump flesh, exceptional sweetness, and a distinctive floral aroma with tropical fruit notes, these mangoes will enter the Chinese market through e-commerce platforms, major supermarkets, and specialty fresh food channels. Previously primarily exported to Middle Eastern and European markets, Bangladeshi mangoes are projected to exceed 100 metric tons in first-year imports to China following this market access breakthrough.

A Changsha Customs official noted that since China Customs' official approval of Bangladeshi mango imports in July 2024, customs authorities have proactively provided enterprises with comprehensive services including policy guidance and qualification reviews to ensure smooth processing of this inaugural shipment in Hunan. Recognizing the special temperature control requirements for perishable goods, Changsha Huanghua Airport Customs activated expedited clearance protocols, monitoring flight status in real-time to achieve an "immediate inspection upon arrival" efficient clearance model.

2025 commemorates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh. Statistics show China has maintained its position as Bangladesh's largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, with bilateral economic cooperation continuing to deepen.
