China Food Exhibition | Conghua Guangzhou Introduces Ten Major Initiatives to Promote Internationalization of Lychee Industry

2025.06.09

According to data from the Conghua District Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, as a key lychee production area in Guangzhou and a leading late-ripening lychee region in China, Conghua's lychee cultivation spans 29,380 hectares this year, accounting for 53% of Guangzhou's total output. Currently, the flowering rate has reached 90%, with over 70% fruit setting, and the annual yield is projected to exceed 70,000 metric tons. The China Food Exhibition will offer more information about food trade.

The district boasts 116 lychee varieties, including premium cultivars such as Jinggang Red Glutinous, Guiwei, and Nuomici. This year's harvest season will begin in mid-June, peak in July, and extend until mid-August, creating a competitive advantage by differentiating from early-ripening production areas.

To strengthen the industry, Conghua has launched ten major initiatives covering quality enhancement, deep processing expansion, financial support, consumption promotion, cold-chain logistics, targeted assistance, export expansion, festival marketing, brand promotion, and investment attraction. Additionally, four lychee-themed tourism routes have been introduced to integrate agriculture, culture, and tourism, attracting visitors for picking experiences.

The China Food Exhibition notes that through grafting and variety improvement techniques, 5,000 hectares of lychee orchards have been upgraded, with a focus on promoting premium varieties like "Liuxi Red Lychee" and "Lingfeng Glutinous." Moreover, in collaboration with South China Agricultural University, Conghua has pioneered ultra-low-temperature fresh-keeping technology, establishing a comprehensive technical system recognized and promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

This breakthrough technology supports Conghua lychee's global expansion. In 2025, the district plans to export over 4,000 metric tons and store an additional 5,000 metric tons, ensuring year-round availability of fresh lychees for consumers worldwide.

China Post's Conghua branch has also introduced a dedicated service plan, integrating air, high-speed rail, and cold-chain logistics to establish a seamless "picking-preservation-express delivery" supply chain. Leveraging EMS's end-to-end logistics, the initiative achieves same-day delivery within Guangzhou, next-day delivery across the Pearl River Delta, and delivery within two days to major cities nationwide, significantly enhancing Conghua lychee's market competitiveness and supporting rural revitalization.
