Food Exhibition | New Paradigm for Tomato Industry Going Global

2025.06.06

In the current era where the digital wave is sweeping through the agricultural sector, Dong Yongze, founder of Lao Dong Zhong Di (Old Dong Farming), has led his team to explore a new path for cross-border export of tomato seeds. As a pioneer in agricultural technology, Dong Yongze believes that China's tomato industry is ushering in a dual opportunity period of "technology + market". The Food Exhibition will offer more information about food trade.

"The taste of Chinese tomato varieties is no longer inferior to international brands, but a complete industrial closed loop needs to be built," Dong Yongze said. His team innovatively uses digital technology to reconstruct the agricultural industry chain: the front end precisely matches breeding directions through big data analysis, the middle end establishes a digital planting management system, and the back end relies on cross-border e-commerce to open up international channels. This full-chain digital transformation has enabled China's tomato seed industry to achieve seamless integration from the laboratory to the international market.

The Food Exhibition notes that Hainan Free Trade Port has become a key fulcrum of this strategy. Lao Dong Zhong Di chose to launch the "Tianyeshang Seed Industry" project in Chengmai, precisely because of Hainan's unique geographical advantages and policy dividends. The project has created a new type of seed industry platform integrating online and offline operations. The offline exhibition center allows overseas merchants to intuitively experience the advantages of the varieties, while the online data middle platform realizes full-process digital management. Dong Yongze specially mentioned: "The efficient services of the Hainan government allowed us to appear on the Winter Trade Fair stage within three days. Such a business environment is inspiring."

As an agricultural technology blogger with millions of followers, Dong Yongze has such advice for newcomers to the industry: "Modern agriculture requires compound talents who understand both planting techniques and digital tools." He firmly believes that with the support of the Free Trade Port policies, Hainan will become an "incubator" for China's agricultural technology going global, and promote more high-quality varieties, advanced technologies, and industry standards to the world.
