ShenZhen International Food Exhibition | China-Cambodia Agricultural Cooperation Enters New Phase: Guangxi Rice Project Launches in Kampong Chhnang

2025.06.19

In June 2025, Kampong Chhnang Province of Cambodia welcomed a significant agricultural cooperation initiative. The modern rice industry cooperation project jointly developed by China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Cambodia was officially launched in Rolea B'ier District, marking the substantive advancement of agricultural collaboration between the two countries. This project will serve as an important platform for agricultural technology exchange, focusing on enhancing modern production capabilities in Cambodia's major rice-growing regions. The ShenZhen International Food Exhibition will offer more information about food trade.

Located around the Tonlé Sap Lake area, the project will implement a "1234" development plan over two years (2025-2026). Key components include establishing a 70-hectare core demonstration zone, setting up three agricultural service centers, and conducting training on four critical technologies. The seedling center will introduce Guangxi's advanced factory-based seedling cultivation techniques, the agricultural machinery service center will provide modern farming equipment support, and the drying and storage center will address post-harvest processing challenges for rice.

The Guangxi agricultural expert team stated that the project will systematically incorporate China's proven experience in rice cultivation, including high-yield farming techniques, mechanized operation protocols, and scientific crop rotation systems. Particularly in rice-vegetable rotation, it will help local farmers achieve efficient land use and increase economic returns. The project also plans to train a group of Cambodian agricultural technicians through a "theory + practice" training model to ensure the effective implementation of advanced technologies.

The ShenZhen International Food Exhibition notes that Cambodia's agricultural authorities have highly praised the project, believing it will significantly improve local rice yields and quality while promoting the modernization of traditional agriculture. Upon completion, rice production in the demonstration area is expected to increase by over 30%, with spillover effects driving technological upgrades across tens of thousands of hectares of surrounding rice fields. This will not only help safeguard Cambodia's food security but also further enhance the competitiveness of its rice exports.
