Shenzhen International Food Exhibition has noted that Beiliu passion fruit from Beiliu City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, has recently been successfully included in the list of national geographical indication protected products. This certification will inject new vitality into the development of local characteristic industries and further enhance the product's market competitiveness.  

Beiliu City has long been known as the "Hometown of Passion Fruit in China" and now has a complete passion fruit industry chain. It is reported that in 2024, the planting area of passion fruit in Beiliu City reached 67,000 mu, with a yield of 69,000 tons and 65,000 tons of processed products. The total output value of the entire industry chain was as high as 3 billion yuan, driving over 30,000 people to employment. The locally produced golden passion fruit and purple passion fruit are deeply loved by consumers for their unique flavors.

Guangxi Dongyun Agricultural Investment Co., Ltd. stated that it will take this certification as an opportunity to innovate the "e-commerce + cooperative + farmer" model and develop passion fruit courtyard economy. It will also increase investment in product research and development to create high-value-added products such as fruit pulp, preserved fruits, and NFC juice, promoting diversified industrial development. With the help of new sales channels like live-streaming e-commerce, the market influence of Beiliu passion fruit continues to expand. 

A relevant person in charge of Yulin Municipal Market Supervision Bureau noted that geographical indication certification can not only protect product characteristics and prevent counterfeiting but also significantly enhance brand value. The certification covers 278 villages (communities) in 22 towns under Beiliu City, which will effectively boost the development of regional characteristic economies. 

In the next step, Yulin Municipal Market Supervision Bureau (Intellectual Property Bureau) will launch the "Geographical Indication +" action plan to advance the cultivation, registration, application, and protection of geographical indications. By leveraging the brand effect of geographical indications, it will increase product added value, help more people increase their income, and drive high-quality development of characteristic industries in the city. 

Shenzhen International Food Exhibition has learned that the excellent quality of Beiliu passion fruit stems from the local unique natural environment. Beiliu City, located south of the Tropic of Cancer, features a typical subtropical monsoon climate with abundant rainfall and sufficient sunlight, creating ideal conditions for passion fruit growth. Known as the "King of Fruit Juices," it is rich in amino acids, multiple vitamins, carotenoids, as well as calcium, phosphorus, iron, and other nutrients. 

With the official approval of "Beiliu Passion Fruit" as a national geographical indication protected product, the industry is expected to embrace broader development prospects.
