International Food Exhibition | Zhanjiang's Early-Season Lychees Make Global Debut with 21.5-Ton Shipment

2025.05.07

On April 23, a batch of fresh lychees from Lianjiang City's Liangliang Rising Sun Lychee Cooperative successfully cleared customs inspection and set off for international markets with 21.5 tons of premium fruit. This shipment not only marks the first lychee export from Zhanjiang in 2025 but also represents the opening salvo for Lingnan's signature fruit in global markets this year. The International Food Exhibition will offer more information about import and export.

"Early-season lychees command premium pricing. Our Osmanthus Fragrance variety gained first-mover advantage in overseas markets thanks to customs' streamlined services," said Lu Yajin, chairman of the cooperative. The early-ripening variety has secured significant price competitiveness in international fresh produce markets by capitalizing on its earlier harvest window.

To facilitate seasonal agricultural exports, Zhanjiang Customs has implemented innovative measures including: dedicated express lanes for perishable goods, a new "batch sampling + cloud certification" model, and appointment-based cold chain quarantine services. These initiatives ensure seamless processing from declaration to certification, with customs officers standing by 24/7 to guarantee "immediate declaration, inspection, and release."

The International Food Exhibition notes that for market expansion, customs specialists continuously monitor international phytosanitary regulations, providing tailored clearance solutions. Technicians visit orchards to guide farmers in optimizing pest control systems, enhancing product quality at source. Zhanjiang lychees have now successfully entered multiple emerging markets.

Customs authorities announced plans to further refine import-export services, with particular focus on developing new growth areas for specialty agricultural exports, helping more premium "Guangdong-brand" farm products reach global dining tables.
