International Food Exhibition | Processed Crayfish Products Gain Global Popularity with Soaring Exports

2025.05.14

As the peak consumption season arrives, various processed crayfish products have become hot-selling commodities in international markets. Major production hubs like Hubei and Hunan are operating at full capacity to meet robust demand from overseas markets including the EU and Southeast Asia. The International Food Exhibition will offer more information about import and export.

At a large processing facility in Qianjiang, Hubei, production lines are running at maximum capacity. The plant processes 500 tons of live crayfish daily into over 20 products including plain-boiled crayfish, seasoned crayfish, and peeled shrimp meat. Company executives reported approximately 20% year-on-year sales growth for plain-boiled crayfish and frozen crayfish tails, with flavored tail products performing exceptionally well on e-commerce platforms.

"We plan to process 43,000 tons of crayfish this year with expected total output value exceeding 2 billion yuan," stated a company representative, noting "ready-to-eat products have shown particularly strong growth through online sales channels."

The International Food Exhibition notes that processing plants in Yiyang, Hunan are equally busy. Workers at a modern facility are rushing to fulfill EU-bound orders, where automated production lines transform live crayfish through more than ten processing stages into ready-to-eat products featuring flavors like spicy mala and garlic.

"Our 32 production lines have a daily capacity of 300 tons," explained a plant manager, "Products are distributed domestically and exported to the EU and Southeast Asia, with this year's export value projected to surpass $25 million." The company has implemented smart traceability systems to ensure quality control throughout the entire production chain from raw materials to finished products.

Industry statistics show China's crayfish industry has experienced rapid development since 2012, with national output exceeding 3 million tons in 2024 and processed products accounting for an increasingly larger share.

"Processed volume increased over 10% year-on-year last year," noted an official from the China Aquatic Products Processing and Marketing Alliance, "Demand for value-added products like seasoned whole crayfish grew even more remarkably by about 30%, demonstrating growing market acceptance of processed items."

Industry analysts observe that with continuous innovation in processing technologies and expansion of consumption scenarios, crayfish products are evolving from traditional restaurant dishes to include snack foods and prepared meals, injecting new momentum into the industry's development.
