Food Exhibition | China-Chile Trade Volume Surpasses 160 Billion Yuan Mark

2025.05.15

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1970, economic and trade cooperation between China and Chile has continued to deepen. The latest customs data shows that from January to April 2025, the total trade volume between the two countries reached 163.19 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%. This growth rate exceeds China’s overall foreign trade growth by 3 percentage points, setting a new record for the same period in history. The Food Exhibition will offer more information about import and export.

As the first Latin American country to sign a free trade agreement with China, Chile's bilateral trade volume with China was only 70.85 billion yuan in 2006 but surged to 437.95 billion yuan by 2024, maintaining an average annual growth rate of 11.2% over the 18-year period. Additionally, Chile was the first South American country to achieve mutual recognition of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program with China. Currently, Chile ranks as China’s third-largest trading partner in Latin America, while China remains Chile’s top trading partner globally.

The Food Exhibition notes that with the deepening of bilateral trade, high-quality Chilean agricultural products are increasingly entering the Chinese market. Data shows that in the first four months of this year, Chile’s cherry exports to China reached 17.54 billion yuan, accounting for 16.2% of China’s total imports from Chile. The South American nation has maintained its position as China’s largest supplier of imported cherries for over a decade. Furthermore, imports of Chilean specialty agricultural products such as frozen crab, salmon, and avocados saw significant growth of 26.3%, 180.9%, and 68.1%, respectively, offering Chinese consumers a more diverse range of food choices.
