China Food Exhibition | Guangdong Leads Nation in Agricultural Trade, Aims to Build Two Trillion-Yuan Industries by 2025

2025.06.04

Guangdong is forging ahead with an ambitious plan to establish a dual-trillion-yuan industrial cluster encompassing "modern marine aquaculture + deep processing of agricultural products." The China Food Exhibition will offer more information about import and export.

Recent data highlights Guangdong's outstanding achievements in agricultural development: the province now ranks first nationally in agricultural import-export volume, leads in aquatic product and fry production, and maintains top positions in the cultivation scale of signature southern fruits like lychee and longan. Provincial agricultural authorities attribute these successes to the implementation of the "Hundreds of Thousands of Villages" high-quality development project, which has driven comprehensive rural industrial revitalization through targeted initiatives.

For 2025, Guangdong plans to focus on developing two trillion-yuan industrial chains in modern marine aquaculture and agricultural product processing, alongside ten billion-yuan grain industries and twenty smaller specialty clusters including tea. Innovative approaches such as advanced marine ranch construction, enhanced industrial platforms, new agricultural business entities, and rural industry innovations will inject fresh momentum into rural revitalization.

Remarkable Progress in Industrial Upgrade

The past year saw across-the-board breakthroughs in Guangdong's agricultural production: achieving simultaneous growth in grain planting area, total output, and yield per unit; record-breaking performance of specialty crops in Zhanjiang; and top-tier national ranking in primary industry added value. While strengthening industrial foundations, farmer incomes have steadily increased, narrowing the urban-rural income gap to 2.31:1.

Infrastructure improvements include over one million mu of newly built high-standard farmland and widespread green manure cultivation to enhance soil quality. Rural living environments have transformed dramatically, with nearly 80% of villages now having sewage treatment systems.

Dual-Engine Development Strategy

The China Food Exhibition notes that Guangdong's agricultural advancement is powered by a "platform construction + competitive industries" dual approach:

·Industrial platforms: 12 national-level industrial clusters, 24 modern agricultural industrial parks, and 200+ leading agricultural enterprises have formed multiple billion-yuan industrial clusters.

·Marine economy expansion: Two new national fishing port economic zones, breakthroughs in aquaculture technologies, and China's largest deep-water cage farming capacity maintaining top seafood production volumes.

2025 Development Priorities

1. Accelerating modern marine aquaculture

Plans include deploying 10,000+ deep-water cages, establishing a national fisheries innovation demonstration zone, and building complete industrial chains from fry breeding to processing.

2. Strengthening industrial platforms

Collaborating with tech departments to create agricultural high-tech zones, nurturing 1,500 core enterprises, and building 300 modern agricultural service centers.

3. Cultivating new rural business formats

Enhancing quality control systems, addressing cold chain logistics gaps, launching e-commerce initiatives, and promoting integrated agriculture-cultural-tourism development.

4. Revitalizing underutilized rural resources

Creating resource databases, innovating development models, training rural artisans, and transforming beautiful villages into economic assets.

Currently, Guangdong has implemented specialized programs for agricultural product marketing and established task forces to ensure farmers benefit from increased production. Through these innovative measures, the province is writing a new chapter in rural revitalization.
