Food Expo 2025 in ShenZhen | The Rise of Qingyuan Silkie Chicken: A Billion-Yuan Industry

2025.06.05

In Cantonese culinary culture, there’s a saying: "No banquet is complete without chicken." As one of the most iconic poultry ingredients in Lingnan, Qingyuan Silkie Chicken has earned the title of "Lingnan’s Premier Chicken" thanks to its unique flavor and long history. Today, this local specialty is experiencing a revival, becoming a pillar industry driving regional economic growth. The Food Expo 2025 in ShenZhen will offer more information about food trade.

Qingyuan City has modernized traditional poultry farming through full industrial chain development. In breeding, the shift has moved from household farming to large-scale operations, while digital marketing has opened new sales channels. In 2024, the industry’s total output exceeded 11.1 billion yuan, with a growth rate of over 26%. According to development plans, annual production is expected to reach 200 million chickens by 2025, with industry scale surpassing 12 billion yuan.

At Fengxiang Silkie Chicken Farm, intelligent equipment has revolutionized traditional farming. Automated feeding and environmental control systems have significantly boosted efficiency, with each worker managing nearly 8,000 breeding chickens. Digital management has reduced breakage rates from 10% to 3%. Tax incentives have also supported technological upgrades, with equipment tax deductions alone saving 1.75 million yuan.

Dongxiu Group enforces strict farming standards: chickens must be free-range within the protected geographical area, fed natural grains and spring water, and raised for no less than 160 days. Tiannong Group’s "company + family farm" model has engaged over 4,000 rural households in standardized farming, generating 380 million yuan in income for farmers in 2024. A traceability system allows consumers to track each chicken’s production journey.

The Food Expo 2025 in ShenZhen notes that the Qingyuan Chicken Cultural Museum showcases its heritage through various exhibits, while the "Silkie Village" IP has enriched its brand appeal. E-commerce expansion has proven successful, with major brands now available on leading platforms. Tax authorities have also provided policy guidance to support compliant business growth.

"With rising consumer demand for premium agricultural products, the market outlook is promising," industry experts noted. "Through sustained branding and quality improvements, Qingyuan Silkie Chicken will achieve even greater success." From a local delicacy to a billion-yuan industry, its transformation stands as a model for rural revitalization.
