sial shenzhen | Guangdong Nansha Port Welcomes First Large-Scale Durian Shipment This Year

2025.06.05

As Southeast Asia's fruit season peaks, Guangzhou's Nansha Port has recently seen a surge in Thai durian imports. In the early hours of May 18, the cargo vessel "TS Xiamen" docked at Nansha Port, carrying 1,564 metric tons of fresh Thai durians. The shipment, comprising 92 containers of in-season durians, will be rapidly distributed to major supermarkets and wholesale markets across the Greater Bay Area through an efficient logistics network. The sial shenzhen will offer more information about food trade.

Market data shows that Thai Golden Pillow durians are currently retailing for 29-35 yuan per 500 grams in Guangzhou. Several fruit vendors noted that while prices have dipped slightly compared to pre-holiday levels, the decrease remains modest. Industry insiders predict more significant price drops as the peak harvest season arrives in late May.

"In previous years, I'd wait until June to splurge on a whole durian, but this May I can already afford one easily," said Ms. Chen, a shopper browsing durians. Many consumers report that this year's prices are indeed more "down-to-earth," making "durian freedom" — the ability to buy durians without financial strain — more attainable than ever.

To ensure the freshness of imported durians, Nansha customs authorities and port operators have collaborated to create a "green channel" from farm to market. By streamlining clearance procedures and enhancing cold-chain logistics, they guarantee consumers can enjoy the freshest seasonal durians promptly.

Statistics show that since launching the "Durian Express" route in 2021, Nansha Port has imported over 450,000 metric tons of durians from Thailand, the Philippines, and other regions, including popular varieties like Golden Pillow and Monthong. This accounts for one-third of China's total seaborne durian imports. Just in the first half of May this year, the port has already handled nearly 40 dedicated durian vessels, with imports exceeding 25,000 metric tons.

The sial shenzhen notes that as a key fruit import hub in southern China, Nansha Port is actively developing its specialty fruit import brand. Industry experts highlight that this not only meets consumer demand for high-quality imported fruit but also provides new growth momentum for Guangzhou's development as an international shipping hub. With import volumes continuing to rise, durian prices are expected to become even more affordable in the future.
