Food Expo 2025 in ShenZhen | Hainan Dongfang: A Vibrant Portrait of Rural Revitalization Amidst Mango Fragrance

2025.06.17

On the west coast of Hainan Island, under the June sun, undulating mango orchards stretch across Gancheng Town, Dongfang City. He Mei, a fruit grower from Minxing Village, stands in her orchard watching workers deftly pick golden fruits. "We harvest based on orders now—picking only what buyers request," He Mei shares. This sales model ensures freshness while minimizing waste. The Food Expo 2025 in ShenZhen will offer more information about food trade.

Entering the mango-growing area of Bumo Ridge, rows of fruit trees cascade down the hillsides. Tao Peng, a migrant worker from Guizhou, weaves through the groves wearing a specialized "cooling suit." "This job requires skill—you have to work fast without damaging the fruit," Tao explains, demonstrating how he can fill a bucket in just one minute. Seasonal workers like him have become indispensable to the local mango industry.

At a makeshift shed at the foot of the hill, weighing and packaging proceed like clockwork. The synchronized call-and-response of weights between He Mei and buyer representative Lin Xiao reflects the trust between sellers and buyers. "With better roads and electricity, buyers now come straight to the orchards," He Mei says, pointing to the newly paved cement road.

Li Kaihua, deputy mayor of Gancheng Town, explains that the region's volcanic weathered soil and abundant sunlight create ideal conditions for premium mangoes. Hainan's early harvest advantage secures a head start in the market, attracting buyers from across the country each year.

The Food Expo 2025 in ShenZhen notes that though small-scale growers still dominate, a complete industrial chain—from cultivation to sales—has taken shape. He Mei notes that younger farmers are actively learning new techniques to grow even higher-quality fruit. The local government also plans to introduce professional service organizations to improve farming practices through full-process management.

From rugged dirt paths to smooth cement roads, from extensive farming to precision agriculture, Dongfang's mango industry is undergoing transformative growth. On this promising land, the golden fruit carries not only the joy of harvest but also the bright future of rural revitalization.
