South China food expo| Yunnan's Premium Coffee Industry Upgrade: from Raw Material Export to Brand Rise

South China food expo has noticed that Yunnan's coffee industry is undergoing a transformation from quantity to quality. Data shows that the premium rate of Yunnan coffee has increased from 8% in 2021 to 31.6% in 2024, and the intensive processing rate has jumped from 20% to 80%, showing a strong development momentum. Qiupu Coffee Manor in Cangyuan Va Autonomous County, Lincang, has become a typical representative of this transformation with its championship performance in the "First Excellence Cup Yunnan Pilot Competition". The coffee beans produced by the manor not only set a new high in the auction price of Chinese green coffee beans, but also drove the improvement of the brand value of the entire producing area.

 

South China food expo learned that the premium transformation of Yunnan coffee benefits from multiple factors. In the planting link, new business entities such as Qiupu Manor make full use of the ecological advantages of the 1650-meter high altitude and introduce 34 high-quality varieties for adaptability experiments. In the processing link, the research team has achieved flavor standardization through technological innovation, making up for the shortcomings of traditional processing methods. It is particularly worth mentioning that the "coffee + upland rice" three-dimensional planting model, which the manor cooperated with the academician team to develop, not only improves land utilization rate, but also explores a new path for ecological planting. Industry experts believe that this "technology + ecology" development model provides a sustainable solution for the quality improvement of Yunnan coffee.

 

 

Industrial integration has become another highlight in the development of Yunnan coffee. By building a comprehensive business format integrating planting, processing and experience, Qiupu Manor receives more than 10,000 tourists annually, creating a new model of "coffee-tourism integration". This model not only drives the employment and income increase of surrounding farmers, but also promotes the spread of coffee culture. Data shows that the manor drives about 10,000 person-times of picking labor, and helps farmers increase the added value of coffee through technical guidance and processing services, realizing a price jump from more than ten yuan to several hundred yuan per catty. Industrial integration not only extends the value chain, but also provides new momentum for rural revitalization.

 

In terms of international development, Yunnan coffee is gaining more and more recognition. In the first five months of 2024, the export value of Yunnan coffee reached 260 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 358%, and it was sold to Europe, America and other countries and regions. At present, Yunnan has identified 14 "provincial-level premium coffee manors" to promote the cluster and brand development of producing areas. Industry experts suggest that the next step should be to speed up the establishment of production area grading and flavor standard systems, promote the transformation of "Yunnan coffee" from a geographical indication to higher quality, and build a Chinese premium coffee brand with international influence. With the continuous improvement of the industrial chain and the continuous enhancement of brand value, Yunnan coffee is winning a broader development space in the global market.
