China food expo| Taizhou Canned Fruits Reach Global Tables, Customs Fuels Export Growth

2025.09.15

In the intelligent workshop of Taizhou, robotic arms swiftly peel and segment citrus fruits, sending glistening pulp into production lines. Within just a few hours, these canned goods, brimming with “Chinese flavor,” are ready to be shipped to international markets. In this scene, China food expo sees new future for Chinese food industry.

As one of China’s key processing centers for exported canned fruit, Taizhou accounts for one-fifth of the national export volume of citrus cans. Taizhou Yi Guan Food, one of the country's largest canned food producers, sells widely across Europe, America, and Southeast Asia, where its products are used in baking, catering, and daily consumption.

In recent years, the company has continued to innovate—adding vitamin jelly pouches, fruit purees, and other new products to its traditional lineup of citrus, peach, and loquat cans, successfully attracting younger consumers.

The canned fruit industry places high demands on raw material freshness and requires sanitary production environments and strict sterilization processes. Huang Hongge, the company’s general manager, recalled, “We used to face obstacles in exports due to limited understanding of different countries’ access standards and technical regulations. Long customs clearance times also led to cargo buildup, driving up costs.”

To support local canned fruit makers in going global, Taizhou Customs has established a specialized technical service team. They guide companies in building comprehensive quality and safety management systems, focusing on key steps such as can filling, sealing, and sterilization, while strictly monitoring pesticide residues and heavy metals to ensure compliance with international standards. The team also offers tailored policy interpretation and technical advice to help businesses better understand target market requirements.

Furthermore, Taizhou Customs has streamlined clearance processes by introducing measures such as “appointment-based clearance,” “rapid inspection release,” and “cloud issuance” of inspection and quarantine certificates. These facilitated channels have significantly shortened clearance time and reduced operational costs.

“These customs measures came just in time—they’ve greatly enhanced our competitiveness in the global market. We’re confident we can further expand exports in the second half of the year and bring more high-quality canned fruits to the world,” said Huang Hongge excitedly.

According to Taizhou Customs, in the first half of this year, the region exported 26,000 tons of canned fruit, valued at 220 million yuan, up 14.7% and 13% year-on-year, respectively.
