Asia Food Exhibition| China's Jinan Makes Historic Breakthrough: Frozen Duck Breast Exports Reach Middle East

2025.09.28

Asia Food Exhibition has learned recently that a batch of frozen duck breast from Laiwu District, Jinan City, has been successfully exported to the Middle East via the Horgos Port in Xinjiang, marking the first time such products from Jinan have entered overseas markets.

“This shipment consists mainly of skin-on duck breast, totaling 60 tons across two trucks, with a value of over 400,000 yuan. After clearing customs via cold-chain land transport, we’ve already received a new order for 240 tons, which also includes duck leg portions. This has greatly boosted our confidence,” said Tian Xishun, Production Manager at Jinan Laiwu New Hope Liuhe Food Co., Ltd.

Just months ago, however, the company faced challenges due to intense domestic competition and product homogenization. When exploring overseas markets, they struggled with a lack of export experience and qualifications. “We had no prior export experience, knew nothing about procedures or policies, and lacked the necessary certifications. It was a major hurdle, and the pressure was significant,” admitted Yang Haifeng, General Manager of the company.

At this critical juncture, Laiwu Customs stepped in to provide targeted support. “This enterprise is a typical 'export beginner,' but we recognized their potential. We were pleased when they reached out to us again, as we had been communicating with them for years, hoping to facilitate export opportunities,” said Wang Jianguo, Chief of the Inspection Section at Laiwu Customs. “Upon learning of their intent, we immediately formed a task force, studied customs record filing requirements, and completed the qualification process in just five working days—15 days faster than usual.”

The customs team also guided the company through inspection and quarantine procedures, ensuring compliance with Middle Eastern standards for microorganisms, drug residues, heavy metals, and other key indicators. Through scheduled customs clearance, priority inspection, and expedited certification, the first shipment achieved efficient customs clearance.

“This export represents a breakthrough from zero to one,” Wang added. “We will continue to help the company enhance its quality management system and pursue international certifications to pave the way for entry into high-end markets.”

In recent years, Laiwu Customs has implemented a “one enterprise, one product, one policy” approach, streamlining record filing and customs procedures to boost local food exports. More than 30 new food export enterprises have been registered, and 15 products—including egg tart wrappers, plum garlic granules, and Sichuan pepper garlic sauce—have achieved their first overseas sales. The successful export of frozen duck breast has now opened a new pathway for Jinan’s agricultural processing companies to expand globally. Asia Food Exhibition anticipates great success for Chinese frozen food products.
